Open Day

To celebrate World Oceans Day on 8 June 2021 the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) is providing a free digital day of educational talks, hot-topic discussions and virtual tours, which will replace our usual on-site Open Day.

The National Oceanography Centre is opening its doors to mark 100 years since the founding of the Liverpool Tidal Institute, a key development in the history of the NOC, the City of Liverpool and the study of our oceans.

For one day of the year we open the doors of our Southampton office to the public, giving a unique view of the ground breaking science and engineering undertaken across the NOC.

Winners of a nationwide children’s art competition, launched online by the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) today, will give a school class the unique opportunity to explore a Royal Research Ship.

For one day of the year the centre opens it's doors to the public, giving a unique view into the ground breaking science and engineering undertaken on this special site.

The Royal Research Ship Discovery has completed her first year of research. Over a series of nine research expeditions, scientists studied the seasonal events taking place in UK shelf waters throughout the year. The vessel, procured by the Natural Environment Research Council for UK science is the latest in marine technology.

The National Oceanography Centre (NOC) in collaboration with Ocean and Earth Science at the University of Southampton proved that ocean and Earth science and its world-leading technology is high on the agenda across the Solent region, reporting a significant increase in visitor numbers to its 2015 interactive public open day.

The oceans are the key to the long-term health of our beautiful blue planet. They continue to surprise and amaze us as we visit this mysterious realm from coast to deep ocean.
