NZOC: Net Zero Oceanographic Capability Summary Report The report seeks to identify options for developing a world-class oceanographic capability with a reduced carbon footprint. How will Ocean Science transition into a Net Zero world? Work Packages WP1 – Future science requirements Sustainable research infrastructure that meets the needs of the scientific community. WP2 – Future policy and regulation It is important that those involved in ocean science and policy minimise the climate impacts generated by oceanographic research. WP3 – Future ship technologies Future Ship Technologies work package is focused on the next generation of research ships to 2035. WP4 – Future Marine Autonomous Systems Marine autonomy is already a major contributor to oceanographic research with a range of platforms being available to cater to different data needs. WP5 – Future Sensor Systems and Networks Whether on ships, MAS or as part of deployed networks, innovation in sensor systems will be key to improving the quality and range of scientific measurements. WP6 – Future Data Ecosystems Advances in technology will generate increasing volumes of data.
