Judith reveals science behind sailing

National Oceanography Centre

NOC researcher, Dr Judith Wolf, will explain some of the science behind achieving world class performance at sailing at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy from 7pm on Thursday 24 May.

Cutting Edge: Behind Sailing will explore what it takes to win gold at Olympic level through an interactive, thought-provoking and demonstration-packed evening.

Weymouth will host Olympic Sailing later this year.

Judith is an expert in coastal modelling of tides, currents and waves and the brains behind Team GB’s gold medal at the Seoul Olympics. She is also a keen sailor herself.

Judith will be joined by Professor Glen McHale, who develops hi-tech surfaces to reduce drag in boats and two-time Olympic sailing medallist, Simon Hiscocks.

Weymouth is one of six places across the United Kingdom chosen by the Royal Institution and Research Councils UK to host a Cutting Edge series event.
