The NOC is to form part of the new Centres of Excellence in Satellite applications, which is expected to aid economic growth in the Solent region. As part of this new centre the NOC will develop the technologies to help robot-subs use live satellite data to inform their route through the ocean, not unlike drivers using live traffic updates.

The NOC will be exhibiting at Oceanology International in March at stand A235,showcasing capability in both Science and Technology. Running alongside will be programme of talks and presentations hosted in room 9.

The spread of oil spills and marine pollution through the world’s oceans can now be simulated on computer models developed by the National Oceanography Centre to help the marine industry manage and measure risk.

24–27 February 2015 – Recent capital investment, as part of the UK Government ‘Eight Great Technologies’ initiative, means that the NERC MARS facility now comprises the largest and most diverse research fleet of marine autonomous systems in Europe.

The National Oceanography Centre will be joining 30 other exhibitors from across industry, government and academic institutions at the Insurance Modelling & Data Expose (IMDE) on 2 July. NOC will be showcasing the centre’s science and technology tools and knowledge that can be utilised to understand and mitigate the risks from coast to deep-ocean.

Universities and Research Institutes are an invaluable source of support for companies wishing to develop new products and services, or accessing new expertise. A variety of mechanisms exist that are flexible to company need, and many of these attract grant funded support from UK or other sources.

During June and July this year NOC will be participating in the International Festival for Business 2014 (IFB 2014) held this year in Liverpool.
