Dr Val Byfield

As deputy science co-ordinator for the NERC RAPID programme, I am particularly interested in research into the role of the Atlantic overturning circulation in the Earth’s climate system, and see my role as increasing public awareness of rapid climate change research through the project website and by other means.

Education outreach and public understanding of science has been a major part of my work for the last 15 years. This included coordinating the input of 27 international science partners into the Volvo Ocean Adventure, participation in the Cape Farewell project bringing artists, educators and scientists together to raise awareness of climate change. Through the UNESCO Bilko and ESA LearnEO! I contribute to the development and distribution of Earth observation education resources for use in workshops and university courses around the world.
