Finalists announced in £1.5 million competition to develop advanced autonomous systems

Waveglider and Socum glider

The final phase of a competition to develop novel Adaptive Autonomous Ocean Sampling Network (AAOSN) management systems for the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) is now underway.

The global ocean goes online for Ocean Business

Ocean circulation

The spread of oil spills and marine pollution through the world’s oceans can now be simulated on computer models developed by the National Oceanography Centre to help the marine industry manage and measure risk.

Innovate UK autonomy funding win

Autosub Long Range

The National Oceanography Centre (NOC), along with nine UK partners from across industry and academia, has won funding from Innovate UK to enable £2.9m worth of collaborative research & development for Marine Autonomous Systems.

Leading NOC scientist to speak at international WhaleFest event

Dr Russell Wynn with one of the marine robots

How marine robotic vehicles can map and monitor the ocean – and the National Oceanography Centre’s (NOC) experiences of using them – is one of the subjects being discussed at this year’s international WhaleFest event, taking place this weekend at the Brighton Centre.

Knowledge transfer partnership formed between ASV and NOC

C-Enduro

Autonomous Surface Vehicles Ltd (ASV) have entered into a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) with the National Oceanography Centre (NOC). This is the first partnership of its kind for both organisations, and will offer ASV the reliability statements and evidence based testing they need to give their marine autonomous systems a significant market advantage.

Autonomous and robotic vehicle showcase underway

The MARS fleet with RRS Discovery

Recent capital investment, as part of the UK Government ‘Eight Great Technologies’ initiative, means that the NERC Marine Autonomous and Robotic Systems (MARS) facility now comprises the largest and most diverse research fleet of marine autonomous systems in Europe.
