Biological Influence on Future Ocean Storage of Carbon (BIO-Carbon)

Ambitious projects to investigate how life in the sea helps the ocean store carbon

  • The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) have announced funding for three ambitious new projects to generate new data on how ocean biology impacts the storage of carbon.
  • The PARTITRICS project will be led by the National Oceanography Centre (NOC), with the further two projects also involving NOC scientists.

New funding allows robot fleet to investigate ocean carbon cycle

The UK is at the forefront of a global shift to using high-tech robots to explore the ocean. The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) BIO-Carbon programme is investigating how marine life stores carbon dioxide (CO2).

NERC appoints new BIO-Carbon champion

Dr Adrian Martin

The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC) has appointed a BIO-Carbon champion to lead a programme that will provide new insights into the role of marine life in ocean carbon storage.
