Modelling Scientist

I develop and apply models of the ocean - ranging from conceptual to state-of-the-art - and analytical diagnostics to help us better understand the dynamics of the ocean. The objective is to improve our capacity to simulate the ocean, make better predictions, and understand those predictions.

Research & Development Interests

  • Numerical model development
  • The dynamics of how the deep ocean connects with shallow shelf seas and the coast. I have specific related interests in coastal trapped waves and the drivers of coastal sea level on short as well as climate change timescales.

Involved in:

  • Joint Marine Modelling Programme (JMMP) - Northwest European shelf NEMO model development. JMMP coordinates work at the Met Office and NERC on the development and evaluation of configurations of the global ocean, sea ice and north-west shelf using the NEMO model
  • WCSSP-India - specifically in developing metrics and diagnostics for assessing regional km-scale ocean dynamics - COAsT
  • C-RISC - Madagascar storm surge modelling.
