Empowering the public to become ocean advocates
The National Oceanography Centre (NOC) connects with diverse audiences through various events, exhibits, showcases, talks and workshops throughout the year.
Our aim is to build a world where everyone feels empowered and inspired to help our oceans thrive, and we are committed to bringing our science and innovation to new audiences through both in person and online engagement.
Our Events
While we’re not able to offer public tours of our Southampton site outside of our annual Open Day, we have plenty of opportunities to engage with us throughout the year and specific events. Check out what's coming up below.
Open Day
In June 2026, NOC welcomed more than 2,000 visitors of all ages for a vibrant and engaging Open Day, celebrating the wonders of ocean science and discovery. The annual event was once again a resounding success, with interactive exhibitions inviting guests to explore cutting-edge research and uncover the hidden depths of our ocean.
Virtual Work Experience Programme
In partnership with Creative Tuition Collective we will be delivering a six-day Virtual Work Experience Programme from Wednesday 5th August to Wednesday 12th August 2026 (weekdays only), providing a unique opportunity to develop career skills while working alongside world-leading marine scientists and engineers.
