Dr Amani Becker

I am a coastal scientist specialising in marine ecosystem services, with expertise in microphytobenthos and sediment biogeochemistry. My research focuses on coastal processes, resilience and the role of blue carbon ecosystems in climate mitigation.  I am currently working to improve understanding of blue carbon ecosystems by modelling the carbon sequestration and storage potential of saltmarsh and seagrass environments under different scenarios.

My work is interdisciplinary, taking whole-system approaches to understand socio-environmental feedbacks and to enhance the impact of coastal research. I have led and contributed to projects across the UK, the Western Indian Ocean, Southeast Asia and the Caribbean, addressing challenges related to carbon storage, sea-level change and coastal protection. Alongside my research, I have extensive experience in stakeholder engagement and delivering capacity-building initiatives to support evidence-based coastal management.
