Ocean and Earth Day at NOC

Ocean and Earth Day, Saturday 17 March 2012

Saturday 17 March, 2012 -

Part of National Science and Engineering Week

NOC’s scientists and engineers carry out the research, sail the ships and build the amazing machines that help us understand the oceans’ role climate in change, monitor and predict global sea level, understand how waves and currents work, discover new species of amazing marine life, and film astonishing deep-sea features, like underwater volcanoes.

Visitors to Ocean & Earth Day will get the chance to go aboard a working research vessel, operate an underwater vehicle, visit the aquarium, take a closer look at fossils and sealife and listen to short, informative talks. Most of the activities are hands-on and suitable for people of all ages. The centre’s cafeteria, with great views across the working port, will be open throughout the event for refreshments.

There is limited parking on site, and visitors who walk, cycle or use public transport will be entered into a free prize draw. All events are free of charge and there is no need to pre-book.

10:30 to 4pm (doors close at 3:30pm)
