10 Things You Need to Know … if pursuing a job outside academia

Rob Wood is a Career Practitioner who supports PhDs and Early Career Researchers in their career development, but has worked in several faculties in his time at the institution. His own career has been varied starting as a lawyer and then running a Corporate Communications, Business Coaching and PR business before retraining as a Careers Professional, which he has done  for the last ten years. His presentation will look at what research says about the changing nature of work and how to be proactive in planning a successful career. Also, how you can access careers help at the university. He started a PhD some years ago, which he had to pause for health reasons at the time. He would like to re-boot it at some point … maybe when life slows down a bit?!

This has been organized as part of the NOCS ECR network and the OES Concordat group (as part of the RCUK Concordat for Early Career Researchers
