An Introduction to Satellite Oceanography at the NOC

With their near-global coverage, satellites provide a unique view of the oceans. The Satellite Oceanography team at NOC undertakes a wide range of Earth Observation activities, from scientific research to consultancy to working with industry and government agencies. This talk will cover a variety of topics ranging from the well-established use of satellite altimetry for sea level and sea state, as well as newer technologies measuring surface salinity or wind speed using reflected GPS signals, through to details of an innovative, proposed new satellite.
