Using Science - addressing the Oceans' big issues
The outputs of scientific research generate new knowledge and information about the oceans and seas. Putting scientific knowledge to use is an important part of our remit as part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). This includes the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) providing impartial scientific advice to inform the development of public policy and regulation, and the development of technologies, information products and services, and their transfer to business and industry.
Our oceans supply food, energy, minerals and metals.
All of our research groups are actively involved in applied research, industry partnerships and knowledge exchange with government departments. By working with the Centre's scientists you have access to:
- new ideas and emerging technologies from a wide range of oceanographic and geological disciplines
- a wealth of expert knowledge
- specialised equipment
- historic data collections and public-funded science results
- links with other NERC research centres and the University of Southampton and University of Liverpool.
