I work in the Analytical Sciences team supporting the development of in situ microfluidic sensors within the Ocean Technology and Engineering Group.

I am currently over seeing the Aquawarn project, an EC funded project with partners across Europe, to develop an early warning in situ nutrient device. In addition I am examining methods to improve the stability and shelf life of reagents and standards to improve field deployment times. I also currently lead the development of phosphate, silicate and arsenic microfluidic sensors, all of which utilise the classic ‘molybdenum blue’ assay.

Previous to my employment here I completed a PhD developing the method ‘Diffusive Gradients in Thin-Films’ for the measurement of uranium in natural waters. I also have several years industrial experience at the Atomic Weapons Establishment as an environmental scientist and analytical chemist.
