Professor Amos is co-director of the newly-formed Centre for Coastal Processes, Engineering and Management (CCPEM), which coordinates all aspects of coastal research at the National Oceanography Centre. He is also co-director of the MSc in Engineering in the Coastal Environment which provides graduates to coastal marine industry. His major administrative contributions in research include directorship and successful completion (in 2005) three European Union multi-national projects (BIOFLOW, EUROSTRATAFORM, EURODELTA. These projects linked about 30 marine institutions across Europe and the same number in USA and Canada. In this capacity, he has co-convened an International (BIOFLOW) Workshop in Venice (2004) and is co-editor of the Special Publication (Journal of Nearshore and Coastal Processes) to be published in 2006. As well, he has represented the University through presentations at bi-annual meetings of each project (2004 and 2005). He has recently won two prestigious grants from CORILA (Committee for Research in Venice Lagoon, to undertake work in Venice Lagoon and Southampton is the only UK University to hold this position. This research has lead to 21 joint publications (2004-2006) in International Journals. He completed (2005) an EPSRC grant which was evaluated by external review as “tending to international quality” and “outstanding”. He is on the editorial board of Journal of Coastal research and Estuarine, Coastal and Shelf Science.
