Informal Symposium in Liverpool – 4 to 5 December 2012
Understanding our Coastal Waters – Irish Sea Coastal Observatory and Field AC project
For over a decade the Liverpool Bay Coastal Observatory produced a unique set of real time data from one of the UK’s most challenging coastal environments. Real time observation combined with innovative operational oceanography provides a unique insight into a complex sea area with significant freshwater influence.
The European FP7 project, Field AC (Fluxes, Interactions and Environment at the Land-ocean boundary. Downscaling, Assimilation and Coupling), seeks to link observations of coastal processes with state-of-the-art ocean modelling techniques. Together, these projects have contributed to major advances in our understanding of the coastal sea and the influence of fresh water flows and associated contaminant fluxes.
An informal symposium has been arranged by NOC (Liverpool) for December 2012 to present results and outcomes from the two projects, as well as a series of brief talks on a number of independent studies, which have benefitted from the Coastal Observatory data.
The meeting will be of interest to anyone working with coastal models or the impact of riverine fluxes on estuarine and coastal waters. It will also bring you up to date with the latest developments in our knowledge of Liverpool Bay and the NE Irish Sea, though the benefits of the projects are by no means limited to this area.
Dates and times: from mid morning Tuesday 4 December to 13.00 Wednesday 5 December 2012
Venue: Foresight Centre, Brownlow Street, Liverpool, L69 3GL (opposite the National Oceanography Centre, Joseph Proudman Building).
There is no charge for attendance and lunch will be provided on both days.
Accommodation: is available at special rates at the Liner Hotel (less than five minutes walk from both the Foresight Centre and Liverpool Lime Street Station).
