Callista's Jurassic journey a success

Discover Oceanography at Lyme Regis

RV Callista, the University of Southampton’s inshore research vessel based at National Oceanography Centre, set sail for the Jurassic Coast in deepest Dorset last weekend (29th April to 1st May) as a star attraction in the Lyme Regis Fossil Festival 2011.

This year’s festival, subtitled Marine Parade, celebrated the area’s Jurassic Sea heritage and the spectacular diversity of life in Lyme Bay today. It featured a range of events and attractions.

The 20-metre catamaran,  moored at the famous Cobb, was a great success with 1,000 visitors a day taking the opportunity to visit and find out more about oceans, sealife and climate change. A National Oceanography Centre stand was also in the events Grand Marquee, offering plenty of hands-on activities.
