Visiting the library . If you wish to visit the library to use the collections you will need to telephone or email the library in advance to make an appointment. You will be sent a confirmation email containing essential information for visitors. Visitors may not borrow any books or other materials from the library.
There is no charge for members of the public using the library for personal research or staff or students from other Higher Education Institutions, who should bring with them their identification from their own Institution. A Daily Library ticket costs £20.00 + VAT per person for commercial organisations.

Library catalogue. An onsite dedicated library catalogue is available for visitors to use to check the location of library materials. The catalogue is available freely via the internet and can be consulted in advance of a planned visit . There is no access to visitors or alumni to subscribed services i.e. electronic databases, electronic journals or electronic books.
Photocopying. Self service photocopying facilities are available. Charges apply.
Power sockets for laptops. You may use laptops in the library and there are uk standard electric sockets provided by all study desks.
MIAS service for corporate users The Marine Information and Advisory Service (MIAS) provides information, data and advice to organisations with interests in the marine environment, both in the UK and abroad.

Alumni University of Southampton Alumni have access to the National Oceanographic Library as part of their Alumni status. Alumni are entitled to borrow up to five items from our 3 week loan stock. All other stock is available for use within the Library. Please contact the library in advance to make an appointment.
SCONUL Access - A UK Higher Education scheme that allows you to use the libraries of other participating UK Higher Education institutions.
