I'm a physical oceanographer using observations to study Southern Ocean circulation and dynamics.  I'm interested in understanding how processes from mesoscale eddies to small-scale mixing operate in the Antarctic Circumpolar Current as well as over the Antarctic continental slopes and shelves, and the role they play in interactions among the ocean, atmosphere and ice, and the Southern Ocean's part in the global climate system.  

I'm the principal investigator for the SR1b annual repeat hydrographic line in Drake Passage, a long-term project measuring Antarctic Circumpolar Current transport and properties, now as part of the Ocean Regulation of Climate by Heat and Carbon Sequestration and Transports (ORCHESTRA) programme. 

I'm also involved in the Ocean2ice component of the iSTAR - NERC Ice Sheet Stability Programme, investigating ocean heat transport toward rapidly-melting ice shelves in the Amundsen Sea Embayment, West Antarctica.
