Current projects
Design, Development and maintenance of a network of sea level measurement stations in the Southern Ocean and Antarctic. There are seven remote island sites and six deep ocean instruments. Data collected is used to study the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) and forms part of Britain's contribution to the World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE).

Design and Development of a replacement 'A' Class tidegauge network for the UK (Dataring). Together with John Marshall of Plymouth Marine Laboratory and POL's Tide Gauge Inspectorate a new system is being developed for MAFF, which takes advantage of the latest developments in microprocessor technology. The existing UK network of 44 gauges are being upgraded to the new system.

Design and Development of sea level measurement instruments for the VEINS and MAIA projects in collaboration with CEFAS-Lowestoft, and partners based in Norway and the Faroe Islands.

Research interests
Low power data logging techniques to allow more sophisticated instrumentation to operate autonomously in harsh environments, such as the deep ocean or the Antarctic regions.

Satellite and telephone communications, to allow data retrieval from remote areas and to provide remote diagnostic facilities.

Development of Internet based instruments able to report directly via telephone network. Central collation of data and GUI based data presentation in graphical format.
