NOC working with the marine science community

The range and scale of challenges in marine science are so large that no one institution or country can work alone. Consequently, marine science requires partnership to be effective. We work in partnership with researchers in the UK and internationally and with the users of our science in government, business and industry.

Delivery partners

Working with it's partners NOC is responsible, on behalf of NERC, for managing UK marine science national capability.


NOC is a key source of expert marine scientific advice and guidance for policymakers.


Hosting partners

The Universities of LIverpool and Southampton are Hosting Partners of NOC.


NOC has a strong relationship with UK and international marine and maritime industry, providing scientific expertise and advice.

NOC Association

The Association offers a range of ways in which institutions can participate in activities and benefit from interactions with NOC.

The outputs of research generate new knowledge about the oceans. Transferring scientific knowledge to support business and industry is an important part of our NOC remit.



Our research is intended to tackle the big environmental issues facing the world. Research priorities will include the oceans' role in climate change, sea level change and the future of the Arctic Ocean.



The University of Southampton and the University of Liverpool both offer a range of highly regarded undergraduate and post-graduate degrees in Ocean and Earth Science.
