The National Oceanography Centre Association

The new NOC Association will be a strategic platform that brings together the NERC funded marine science community to enhance its influence on funders and policy makers and the impact of our science on society
Professor Peter Liss, Chair of the Board of the NOC Association

The National Oceanography Centre (NOC) Association offers a range of ways in which institutions can participate in the activities and benefit from interactions with the National Oceanography Centre.

The creation of the NOC on 1st April 2010 envisaged the creation of a wider association of Universities and research institutions to support wider engagement of the NOC with the marine science community in an open and impartial way. Collectively the NOC Association will forms a strong voice to Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), to Government directly and through the Government’s Marine Science Co-ordination Committee (MSCC) and internationally on issues affecting marine science and its delivery in a UK context.

One of the Association’s first tasks is to develop a vision which takes a broad view of the priorities for science and national capability within the context of the NERC and UK Marine Science Strategies.  It will be a research community vision that will guide the activities of the NOC. Developing this strategy will need a wide engagement with the marine science community.

The Association is a network of identified individuals and institutional representatives, underpinned by its website and other communication tools. Its activities are driven by the Board of the Association.
