Wider marine community partnerships
NOC enjoys a wide range of partnerships, enhancing our links with the marine industrial sector, Learned Societies and policy makers.
The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) is the international Professional Body covering the marine engineering, science and technology area. Some of the courses taught in the School of Ocean and Earth Science at NOC are IMarEST accredited, and a number of our scientists are Members or Fellows of the Institute. NOC is a member of the IMarEST Marine Partners programme, a membership network for organisations involved in the marine and offshore sectors.
NOC is a supporter of Sea Vision UK, the national campaign to raise awareness of the sea including the maritime sector in its widest sense.
NOC is a major sponsor and supporter of the Challenger Society for Marine Science, the Learned Society which exists to advance the study of marine science through research and education.
NOC is an associate member of SUBSEA UK the trade body for the UK subsea industry, acting for the entire supply chain bringing together operators, contractors and suppliers in the industry.
NOC is a corporate member of the Society for Underwater Technology, a multidisciplinary learned society that brings together organisations and individuals with a common interest in underwater technology, ocean science and offshore engineering. Members of NOC staff serve on SUT Committees and Council.
NOC is also a partner of the National Centre for Ocean Forecasting (NCOF), a strategic partnership together with the Met Office, Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML), and the Environmental Systems Science Centre (ESSC) at Reading.
In 2009 we became Associate Members of the Passenger Shipping Association. This is because we us commercial ships of opportunity as excellent platforms for carryng scientific instrumentation into the open ocean, and it gives us an opportunity to work with ship owners and operators to enhance marine science, and to inform the companies involved about marine science and environment issues.
Our scientists also attend meetings of the Parliamentary Maritime Group and many scientists and staff serve on a wide range of scientific, policy and advisory committees, directly influencing marine science activities throughout the UK, Europe and the World.
